My good friend Debbie over at Just Another 15 Minutes posted a challenge on her blog: to publicly give thanks for a specific aspect of our lives on each of the 30 days in November. I am taking that challenge, and I hope you will join us!
Day 2 – I am thankful for the nice weather.
2011 has already made history as one of the worst weather years ever recorded, and the year isn’t even finished! The Northeastern U.S. just had record snowstorms over the weekend. Earlier in the year, we saw floods, tornadoes, wildfires, and drought of epic proportions. Earthquakes and tsunamis have devastated homes, land, and lives. Here in the Southeastern U.S. we have been blessed with fairly calm weather this year. We are suffering from drought, and we had a summer of record heat. But overall we have been much better off than other areas of the country.
Now that fall has arrived, we have mild weather. Cool mornings, pleasant afternoons, and evenings that are perfect for an after-supper stroll. (Yes, we call it supper, not dinner.)
So, thank You God for the nice weather we are enjoying right now. Help me to remember this weather when I am tempted to complain about the cold weather during the next few months. Use these days to remind me that You are faithful, and that spring always follows winter. The sun will warm the earth again and flowers will spring forth from the ground. All will be well.
11 For lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree puts forth her green figs,
And the vines with the tender grapes
Give a good smell. ~ Song of Solomon 2:11-13a
