Today’s Savings & Swag looks at how we can be wise stewards of our money as we begin to do our holiday shopping.  (Yes, it is that time… less than two months ’til Christmas!)  Of course, the first and most important rule is to make a budget, make a list, and do your very best to stick to both!  Here are a few more savings tips, and a huge list of shopping coupons and discounts to get you started…

Let’s see how we can save some money:

  • Our local gas station offers a loyalty card that takes up to 10¢ off per gallon.  Check with your local gas stations to see if they have a similar program.  Some national chains have their own gas credit card that offers discounts, reward points, or cash back.  If you choose to use a gas card, just be sure that you will pay off the balance each month.  The interest on these cards costs far more than the savings will offset!
  • Take the time to review bank fees on your accounts.  Lately, many banks have initiated new fees or increased their existing fees.   It may be time to change the type of account you use to one that has lower fees.  Even though it is inconvenient, it might be worth your time to change to a different bank or a credit union.
  • If you are planning to shop at a mall or outlet center, check with customer service first to inquire about any coupon booklets or special savings offers.

Okay, that’s all I have for you today.  Enjoy your weekend, stay safe, and remember to honor God with your “first fruits” – tithes and offerings – before you think about shopping. 🙂

8 “ Will a man rob God?
Yet you have robbed Me!
But you say,

‘ In what way have we robbed You?’
In tithes and offerings.
9 You are cursed with a curse,
For you have robbed Me,
Even this whole nation.
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the LORD of hosts,

“ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.
11 “ And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”
Says the LORD of hosts;
12 And all nations will call you blessed,
For you will be a delightful land,”
Says the LORD of hosts.  ~  Malachi 3:8-12
